UFC Vegas 13 Full Card Preview With DieHardMMAPod

UFC Vegas 12 is keeping things moving this weekend. Sometimes the UFC hits these dry patches where there aren’t any big names to headline cards, and we get these slightly lower level fight cards. Honestly, they are some of my absolute favorites! You lower the level of MMA just slightly, and suddenly you get finishes left and right. I would get a stiff drink and buckle in because UFC Vegas 13 should be a blast.
Starting the night off, we have Gustavo Lopez, who is getting a late notice replacement in Anthony Bichak. Birchak is a former UFC fighter who has since been dropped to the regional scene but appears to have scraped his way back into the big show. Lopez is a fighter; I am excited to see the fight again after his rough debut against Merab. Good wrestling and fast hands, I think Lopez has an opportunity to show up in a big way Saturday. The second fight of the night is a UFC debutant in Ramiz Brahimaj, an all-star grappler with a 100% finish rate. Brahimaj is a submission specialist who will be facing a long time UFC vet Max Griffin and this fight should be a scrap! Both men are strong grapplers, and Max seems to be in some of the best shape we have seen him in. If Ramiz doesn’t get a quick finish and early, he is in for a war.
The DAMAGE returns on Saturday against a willing opponent who is looking to be the one who puts that final nail in the coffin. Darren Elkins has taken more damage than anybody I’ve seen who can still walk straight. I have no idea how this man continues to bear the punishment put on him and keeps fighting. Luiz Eduardo Garagorri is a very skilled striker who hits extremely hard and will be looking to knock the veteran out on Saturday. Darren may need to take this fight to the floor.

Alexandr Romanov, King Kong, will finally face Marcos Rogerio de Lima barring some weigh-in issue this weekend. These men have been booked several times now, and originally this fight was lined at a pick-em. If you can believe it, I had that ticket in my pocket, and I was incredibly excited about it. The bookmakers aren’t sleeping on Romanov, though, because he is now a -400 favorite over de Lima. I locked in Romanov earlier in the week, and I still think he crushes de Lima.
The Final preliminary fight is between Trevin Giles and Bevon Lewis. Honestly, this fight should be fun and is relatively evenly matched. My only issue in this fight is that both guys are so green and untrustworthy. Once upon a time, Giles and Lewis were two of the brightest prospects in the middleweight division, but both have made several serious mistakes and really need a bounce-back here. The loser of this fight might lose their job on Saturday.

The main card of UFC Vegas 13 is severely underrated! The card kicks off with Claudia Gadelha taking on Yan Xiaonan in a women’s strawweight battle. Claudia has been a contender at Strawweight her entire UFC career and will be a huge jump up in Yan’s competition. Yan is looking to solidify herself as a true threat to the title and has improved every time we see her. Claudia’s chin has been deteriorating in her last several fights and has struggled with her gas tank. Yan is a fighter who has a massive offensive striking output and is very physically strong. On top of that, she has been training with Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo, so her counter wrestling should be on point against Claudia Saturday. I am on Yan, and this may very well be my favorite bet on the card.

The Co-main event sees the return of MMA legend Andrei Arlovski taking on the streaking Tanner Boser in a changing guard kind of match up. Tanner Boser, who has been MMA sports bettors favorite Canadian recently, is really coming into his own in the UFC. Tanner is a smaller and faster heavyweight who uses his mobility and speed to outland his opponents, but recently he has been sitting on his punches and cracking much harder. Tanner Boser is a younger and faster version of what Andrei Arlovski used to be, and I am not so sure the 40+-year-old fighter can hang with Boser’s speed and power on Saturday. I expect this to be a high-paced fight until Boser lands the kill shot, and he is another fighter I feel is a solid parlay piece on Saturday.

The main event for UFC Vegas 13 is another potential “changing of the guard” fight when Thiago Santos makes his long-awaited return to the UFC’s cage after his severe knee injuries suffered at the hands of Jon Jones. Santos is the man who owns a knockout win over current 205 champion Jan Blachowicz and is looking to find himself in a rematch for the belt he couldn’t take from Jones. Standing in Santos’ way is veteran gatekeeper Glover Teixeira. This is a fight between two very well rounded and experienced fighters, and much of this fight will come down to the age and durability of Glover Teixeira. Glover is now 41 years old, and while he has been durable his entire career, he has been rocked and hurt in nearly every one of his recent fights. Thiago Santos is a vicious power puncher who, I believe, will finally be able to crack the aging chin of Glover. This fight will be close and entertaining all the way up until the end, but unfortunately, I believe we will finally see the underdog run of Glover come to an end.
