“The Great” returns at UFC 249
Written by Jeff Slaughter on April 8, 2020
UFC 249 is back on which means San Antonio’s own Alexander “The Great” Hernandez is back. Hernandez was initially suppose to fight the Combat Sambo World Champion Islam Makhachev but due to travel restrictions much like Khabib that won’t be happening. Instead Alex will be facing Omar Morales who is fresh off a decision win over Dong Hyun Ma and holds a 9-0 overall MMA record. Hernandez comes into this bout with an 11-2 overall MMA record after a decision win beating Francisco Trinaldo right here in San Antonio.
Alex Hernandez started wrestling at the age of 13 years old and quickly began learning other forms of martial arts. It was soon after that Alex discovered his love for fighting. With a Bachelor’s degree in Business Finance out of the University Of Texas at San Antonio, Alex decided to pursue his dream as a Professional Mixed Martial artist and see where it would take him. After compiling an impressive 8-1 MMA record in LFA and RFA, he was signed by UFC in early 2018. “The Great” started off his UFC career 2-0 with two really good wins over Beneil Dariush by KO in 42 seconds and Olivier Aubin-Mercier in a hard fought 3 round unanimous decision win. Currently Alex is 3-1 in the UFC with his sole defeat coming by TKO from Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone who I don’t think anyone should be ashamed of losing to a legend such as “Cowboy”.
Alex Hernandez has been training here in San Antonio at Ohana Academy. He has a reputation around there of being gym rat. Alex eats, sleeps and breathes his art and constantly works on his skills and craft. Even when Alex has some free time he is usually teaching a class at Ohana Academy for kids and giving back to his community. I expect Alex to be in tip top shape for his upcoming bout at UFC 249 come April 18th 2020 which can be watched on PPV ESPN. All of San Antonio and The Ohana Nation is behind Alex Hernandez and what a perfect time for an event to take our minds off this Pandemic we have all been suffering through.
