Andrew Santangelo’s Predictions:
There are not many, if any, days/weekends better than MLB opening day. One of the best things to have back is baseball. Fans were able to enjoy going to games again this past weekend as multiple players talked about how big of a difference it was to have fans return to the parks.
On Hey, Say Plays, the duo of Andrew and Jose went through their season projections in each division from projections to players to watch, and finally team over/under.
The overall season projections were constructed here below. Andrew’s division winners in the American League were Blue Jays(AL East), White Sox (AL Central), A’s (AL West). The National League division winners included the Braves( NL East), Cardinals(NL Central) Dodgers(NL West). The wild card teams are tougher than ever to pick in the national league as the league stacks up very well, which should come out to big playoff races in late September.
The Wild Card teams will be the Padres, and the Mets built off the rosters they have constructed on paper had some of the best offseasons overall as anyone in the league. The NL East is one of the deepest divisions in baseball and will create a dynamic race between the Braves, Mets, Phillies, Nationals, and Marlins for the top two positions in the division.
Once the playoffs begin, the wild card matchup for the Padres and Mets will belong to the Padres, setting up the NL West showdown. Dodgers will top the Padres in five games to move onto the NLCS once again. The Braves will knock off the Cardinals to create a Dodgers and Braves rematch from the 2020 season.
It is tough to win back-to-back no matter how good you are. Yes, this means Dodgers will not win two in a row as the Braves will pull off the upset and go to the World Series.
In the American League, the battle for the final two spots mainly between the Astros, Yankees, and Twins. When it’s all said and done, the Twins will miss the postseason setting up a battle between the Yankees and Astros.
Yankees will move on to face the White Sox in the ALDS. White Sox will knock off the Bronx bombers due to not having the starting pitching to last with Chicago. A’s will find a way to knock of the Blue Jays as it’s just a year or two early before they make a true run. White Sox will keep the A’s out of the World Series once again.
This sets up the White Sox and Braves in a seven-game World Series that the Atlanta Braves will take due to a slightly more balanced roster. However, the first base battle between the 2020 MVPs Freddie Freeman and Jose Abreu, would be one to remember.
