This Saturday night live on Fox Pay Per View is a Welterweight title bout between Manny Pacquiao (61-7-2, 39 KO’s) and Keith Thurman (29-0, 22 KO’s). Pacquiao comes into this bout off a decent performance over Adrien Broner in January where he utilized his speed to win round after round and picked up an easy unanimous decision victory.
Thurman, on the other hand, is coming off a majority decision win against Josesito Lopez in January. Keith Thurman showed a significant amount of rust in that fight and was lucky to survive some hairy situations. However, he left with the win and that brings us to this bout.
Manny Pacquiao is 40 years old and isn’t going to overwhelm Thurman. Instead, he will use his speed advantage and dart in and out tagging Thurman with straight lefts and jabs all fight long.
Keith Thurman is the naturally bigger man in the ring and is in the prime of his career. The problem is that before the Lopez bout, he hadn’t boxed in two years due to injuries making this a big test for him. Prior to this fight, Thurman’s best win was against Danny Garcia in 2017.
Now both combatants bring in a certain set of skills that should make this very interesting. Keith Thurman does not display outstanding knockout power and if he can’t put down Pacquiao with one punch, I don’t think he’s going to out maneuver him over the course of twelve rounds. Manny will be too quick and cerebral and put an exclamation point on this bout by knocking Thurman down late to seal the decision. Pacquiao gets it done Saturday night.
