Bundesliga Is BACK! BMOC Breaks Down His Picks For The First Weekend Back

Written by on May 14, 2020

FINALLY! We have football back! Bundesliga is here and I think we can all agree how exciting it is. There will be no fans, and there will be definitely be a different feeling in the air, but its football and its not replays. Fans obviously make any atmosphere, but i’ve seen many games shuttered to fans before, and while eerie, you get used to it. Here are my selections for the weekend.

AUGSBURG V WOLFSBURG: Most of the matches at least early on, I think there’s a feeling out process with most teams. In this one though, I expect goals. Augsburg in defense have been poor all season, in fact they have been one of the worst defenses in the league this season. I think Wolfsburg should be able to get the win here, but I think Augsburg has enough firepower to at least find a goal here in what I think is 2-1/3-1 type of match. PICK: OVER 2.5 (-110)

FORTUNA V PADERBORN: Two relegation new boys meet up here in which is a big match for both sides, as both feel they can get three points. Generally in a match like this I play the draw and will here as I can’t split either and Fortuna have been the draw kings. 4 of their last 6 overall have been stalemates and they have 7 this season overall. But for me, I have other options on the card I like more. PICK: PASS

RB LEIPZIG V FREIBURG:  I love this Leipzig side, they are flying scoring 62 goals on the season and the defensive prowess has been sparkling allowing a league low 26 goals on the season. Incredible stuff by Timo Werner and the boys. Plus they are at home here. I’ll be fading road teams as usual especially in these conditions. Freiburg has been terrible away this season managing just 7 points in 10 road matches. Leipzig wins 2-0. PICK: Leipzig -1.5 (-105)

DORTMUND V SCHALKE: This one would be a rocking atmosphere with fans, too bad we won’t have them. The Ruhr Derby is always a fun one and I expect a great match here with few fireworks. This match screams tactical and boring to me. Schalke just isn’t very potent and while I am concerned about Dortmund’s ability to attack, I’m willing to think they win comfortably and keep a clean sheet. Both sides have been very good defensively. PICK: UNDER 2.5 (+130)

HOFFENHEIM V HERTHA BERLIN: Two middle table sides here, not much interest. PICK: PASS

EINTRACT VS MONCHENGLADBACH: I think goals could be on the menu in Frankfurt. While Monchengladbach has been solid this season defensively they haven’t kept a clean sheet all season. They will give a goal up. Eintract continues to see top 6 slip away from their fingertips and i think they used to the break to regroup and refocus. I think this is a big opportunity for them. Both sides have seen plenty of goals in recent matches and I expect that here. PICK: OVER 2.5 (-120)

COLOGNE V MAINZ: There was no team I thought the 2 month break hurt more than Cologne. They had been flying winning 8 of their last 11 and scoring 27 goals during that time in the process. It’s going to be important that they refocus and come out with the same intensity. I think they will, and I like this side. They have fight and Jhon Cordoba has been great up front. Mainz is awful and I think they bow out early here. PICK: Cologne (-105) to beat Mainz

UNION BERLIN V BAYERN MUNICH: This one could get ugly, as a lot of Bayern games sometimes do. Bayern is a freight train however this will be their first match of the season against Union and it’s away from home.  Union cannot be looked over as they have had some solid results and sit mid table after many thought they would be going right back down. If this were any other game, I’d trust Munich to figure it out and roll to a 2 goal win, but it isn’t. Ill pass until next week with them. PICK: PASS

WERDER BREMEN V LEVERKUSEN: Bremen are near the bottom of the table and I expect them to find their way out and finish respectfully. They must do it here. No screwing around anymore from them. This is a big match and it’s at home. I know Leverkusen are good and it will be tough. However, if Bremen can’t get up for this one, I don’t know what to say. I at least think they can find a goal. PICK: Both teams to score a goal (-130)
