Tomorrow night; Thackerville, Oklahoma plays host to another Bellator card that airs live on the Paramount Network. The WinStar Casino is the arena; a casino I’m all too familiar with, they have free soda fountains scattered throughout and is filled with cigarette smoke, but this isn’t an advertisement for the WinStar, you guys want some winners and I’m going to provide those.
Rafael Carvalho -120 over Chidi Njokuani
In a catch weight battle at 190 pounds, we have two dynamic strikers in Carvalho and Njokuani. Rafael Carvalho is off back to back losses against Gegard Mousasi; a perennial top 15 fighter in the world and Lyoto Machida; a former UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion who got past him by a split decision. His opponent; Chidi Njokuani is off a loss of his own to John Salter where he got dominated on the ground. Now Njokuani is a great kickboxer, problem is he going to be the naturally smaller man in the cage even though both guys weighed right at the 190 pound mark for their bout. This is a huge fight for both guys and one that I would not want to miss as each fighter comes in to the cage with excellent Muay Thai and kickboxing. With all that being said, I’m taking Carvalho and the short favorite line because he’s going to dictate the stand up portions of the bout and if the fight does see the ground, he’s the naturally bigger man and should impose his will there.
The only other fight I liked was Ed Ruth but his odds have moved from the opener of -350 to now -800 that I can not justify that price but he will dominate his fight as well. That’s all I’ve got for Bellator 224.
