How was Arteta’s first game as Arsenal manager?
This boxing day, most of the eyes of the premier fans were in the Arsenal match against Bournemouth. Since this match marks the debut of the new Arsenal manager, the Basque Mikel Arteta. The game ended with an impressive score of 1 to 1, but with a lot of material to analyze what may be the possible future of Arsenal under the command of Arteta.
First of all, we can say that Arteta starts his era in charge of the Gunners a little better than his predecessor Unai Emery who lost his debut game. With only 3 days of training by the new manager, Arsenal came out and demonstrated a game plan on the field, something that the team lacked months ago.
Arsenal dominated during the first 35 minutes of play, but the Bournemouth was the one who hit first thanks to Dan Gosling’s goal. After the goal of the Cherries, the Gunners lost a bit of concentration, and their playing style worsened, but it was in the middle of that unorganized and somewhat chaotic game that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found a rebound and achieved the score for the North London team.
The midfield of Arsenal shone with its own light, Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka controlled the midfield well, with precise passes, pressing the opponent and recovering balls. In the offensive part of the midfield, Mezut Ozil seems to have recovered some of his football, during this game he was seen creating opportunities and opening spaces for the strikers. Ozil is the highest-paid player of the Gunners with a weekly salary of £ 350,000 this high amount and his poor performance on the field has caused much speculation about a possible transfer in the winter market. However, the german may fit well in Arteta’s plans and may find his great football again.
Arsenal’s defense seems to be Mikel Arteta’s main headache and an area where he will have to work hard to improve performance. Ainsley Maitland-Niles was overtaken by King on several occasions, leaving large spaces that neither David Luiz nor Sokratis was able to of covering. Bernd Leno is the only player in the back of Arsenal that offers some guarantee if it weren’t for his work, the scoreboard would have favored the Cherries for a couple more goals.
Alexandre Lacazette much has been speculated about the possible departure of the striker in January, possibly to Real Madrid, who seems much interest in his services. These rumors may be affecting him because, in the game, it appeared that his head was in Spain while his body tried to concrete some of the multiple goal opportunities presented to him. His confidence collapsed after failing 3 clear scoring opportunities; in any case, Arteta did not replace him.
The game against Bournemouth was only the warm-up for Arteta since next Sunday he will have to play against Chelsea, Frank Lampard’s team occupies the 4th position of the Premier, and they lost their Boxing Day game against Southampton by 2 to 0. The odds are Arsenal +185 Chelsea +139. This is seen as an exciting game where both teams have much to prove.
After the match with Chelsea, the Gunners will face 7 of the league Manchester United. For this match, Arsenal is placed with +133 while United is with +191.
The next matches will be crucial for the future of Mikel Arteta in Arsenal, what is certain is that the Spaniard is giving 100% to return the glory to the Gunners and take them back to win trophies.
